Today we have four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Ludlow and Taunton as well as all-weather flat cards from Newcastle and Chelmsford City.  David runs Perspicace, Father Edward and The Two Amigos at our local track Taunton.  Perspicace runs in the 2.00pm race; a selling hurdle and this represents a big drop in class for our six year old gelding.  Michael Heard is in the saddle and takes a handy 5lbs off his back and a reproduction of any of his better for would see him win.  Father Edward contests the novices' limited handicap chase at 3.35pm and David Noonan is aboard.  Our eight year old was a ready winner on his debut for the stable at Cartmel but has been a little below that form in two subsequent outings and would need to improve to land this.  The Two Amigos runs in the novices' handicap hurdle at 5.15pm and I thought he ran a promising race last time.  As an Irish point winner he should stay this longer trip and looks to have decent prospects under Tom Scudamore.

There was some sad news from Ffos Las yesterday after Batavir, who unseated David Noonan at the second fence, suffered a fatal injury when running loose on the track.  It is very sad indeed for the owners and all of the stable staff who grow so close to the horses in their care.  He will be missed.

Meanwhile, Duc de Beauchene ran a race full of promise on his racecourse debut in the bumper when beaten only 1/2 length.  He was seven lengths clear of the remainder and looks like a winner waiting to happen.

There is a great article in today's Racing Post with Professor Caroline Tisdall the subject.  Caroline is the first professor I ever remember talking to and she is a very normal and down to earth lady.  Anyway, it is well worth a read if you are passing a paper shop.

I was talking to Sir Anthony McCoy yesterday as he paid us a visit at the stable and he says that he is still enjoying retirement...or at least that is what he says!  With these spare mounts of JP's at the forthcoming Cheltenham Festival following Barry Geraghty's injury, I wonder if the thought has for one minute crossed his mind about making a comeback?  I reckon he could still ride most of his counterparts to sleep!

Manchester City overcame a one goal deficit yesterday to beat Huddersfield 5-1.  They looked much sharper than Huddersfield as you would expect.

I was driving up the M5 towards the yard the other day when this chocolate went past me at 100mph...it was a Ferrari Rocher!
