The stable was back among the winners yesterday when Perspicace landed the seller at Taunton.  He ran out the ready winner under Michael Heard and was bought back in at the subsequent auction.  This represented a drop in class and he did look different geat to the rest of the field - he should be up to winning more sellers or claimers.  This type of race gives horses who are badly handicapped a good opportunity to get back to winning ways, they also provide opportunities for trainers to pick up a bargain and furthermore they also generate revenue for the racecourse...it still baffles me why they don't have more of them.  Meanwhile, The Two Amigos also ran well to finish runner-up in the concluding novices' handicap hurdle and it should not be long before he is winning.

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Newbury and Doncaster and a couple of all-weather flat cards from Lingfield and Newcastle.  Tom Scu heads to Newbury today for a few nice outside rides with Most Celebrated possibly the best of them.  Meanwhile David Noonan and Conor O'Farrell make the long trip north to Doncaster - I don't envy them spending hours on the motorway with all the rain we have been having.

I see that snooker legend and keen racing man John Virgo is 71 today...that is more than the breaks he puts together these days!  John is a great character and has visited us at the yard and dropped into our Cheltenham marquee many times.  Many happy returns John.

The England cricketers take on the West Indies at 1.30pm today and they are a long odds-on to win the first One Day International.  That just goes to show you how far they have slipped since the glory days of the 80's with the likes of Viv Richards, Joel Garner, Michael Holding, Malcolm Marshall et al.  It seems like they play lots of other sports these days instead of cricket.  When I visited the West Indies back in my table tennis days every kid would be in the street playing cricket...not any more it would seem.

It seems as though Wayne Rooney is on borrowed time at Manchester United with the team seemingly willing to pay off his £250,000 per week contract which lasts until summer 2019 - he would then be a free agent and could sign for anyone.

Andy Murray won a 31 minute tie-break against Philipp Kohischreiber yesterday to reach the semi finals of the Dubai Championship.  It was only the sixth 20-18 tie-breaker since 1991.

Finally, a thought for the day...why is abbreviation such a long word?  Keep smiling...
