There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Taunton and Southwell as well as an all-weather flat card from Kempton.  We have one runner today as Lady Of Longstone (pictured above) goes in the three mile handicap hurdle at 4.50pm.  Regular rider Michael Heard is in the saddle and he claims a handy 5lbs off her back - our seven year old mare has won six times including the final of the mares' challenger series at Haydock last season.  She has dropped in the weights subsequently but would need to improve on her most recent outing when pulled up at Exeter.  She is a big price but a return to her best would see her go well.

I see that the notorious Cheltenham gatecrasher has been located.  The chap is called Richard Melia and he has made it a past-time to get in on the celebrations of others at big events - he was there when Frankel won his last race at Ascot as well as Aurora's Encore's Grand National success.   His exploits are not just limited to horse racing either as he has been on the grid at Silverstone ahead of the Formula One Grand Prix, while the one I find hardest to believe is that he was in the ring after a Floyd Mayweather fight in Las Vegas and even shook hands with the victor!  It seems as though he has been all over the world gatecrashing...I wonder where he gets his money from?

It is Lars Kelp's 53rd birthday today.  Lars was at Pond House some time ago and was a real character - many happy returns!

It would seem that the Irish can win just about anything at the moment - they tell me that they even beat us at Rugby by 13-9.  My ex-public schoolboy rugby mate tells me that the Irish were much better than the final score...I'm just glad we are not playing them at football!

I was watching the Arsenal match over the weekend and I have to say that the Gunners looked terrible, clueless in fact.  Wenger has totally lost the plot and he told West Brom manager Tony Pulis that he will be staying put as Arsenal boss.  That should upset most of their fans!  Meanwhile Chelsea won 2-1 at Stoke despite not playing terribly well - it was still enough to get them three points, normally the sign of a good team.

Thought for the day...if wine is plonk, does that mean that wine tasters are plonkers?!  Have a nice day...
