There is only one thing that we can start with this morning and that is Mr Clarkson who was successful for the fourth time this season when battling to victory in the final of the Betfred handicap hurdle series at Sedgefield yesterday.  In doing so David Noonan was recording his 75th success and therefore riding out his claim.  Many of the Pipe's Prospectors syndicate were there and I bet the result made the long journey home fly by - that is if they came home...I wouldn't be at all surprised if a few of them were still up at Sedgefield partying!  With over £12,500 in prize money for the winner it was a very good effort from Sedgefield and the sponsors of the race Betfred.  Indeed, Sedgefield were also kind enough to put on a hospitality box for our owners and it was greatly appreciated.  I have always enjoyed my visits to the track - the staff are very friendly and accommodating and I would recommend a day out at the races there to anybody.

Back to today and there are four meetings taking place with jumps action from Taunton and Warwick while there are all-weather flat fixtures from Wolverhampton and Chelmsford.  David runs Abracadabra Sivola in the staying handicap chase at Taunton, while Ballywilliam, Saint John Henry and Magie du Ma represent the stable at Warwick.   Abracadabra Sivola is a course winner but he will have to perform better than when pulling up last time - he is partnered by man of the moment David Noonan who can claim his 3lbs allowance for another 72 hours.

Over at Warwick Magie du Ma looks interesting - I thought she ran a nice race on her British debut when thrown in at the deep end in the Triumph Hurdle and she was beaten less than 15 lengths having travelled strongly for much of the way.  She has to give plenty of weight to most of her rivals but this is a valuable race and looks to be a good opportunity for her to open her account on these shores.  Saint John Henry and Ballywilliam contest the staying handicap hurdle.  Saint John Henry is a course winner but he gets little help from the handicapper and is still 5lbs above his highest winning mark, while Ballywilliam is talented but needs to improve on his most recent form.

The bronze statue of Christiano Ronaldo that was unveiled at Madeira Airport yesterday looks more like Niall Quinn than it does of the great man!  I bet Ronaldo would get the right hump if someone told him that, in fact he has probably never even heard of Quinn!

What a performance from Australian born Brit Johanna Konta in the Miami Open tennis to beat world number 5 Simona Haleps, setting up a clash with Serena Williams in the semi-final.  That should be a match to enjoy.

I see that Mohammed Irfan has been banned from cricket for a year and fined £8,000 for failing to report approaches from bookmakers in the Pakistan Super League.  I never reported any of the bookmakers approaches to me either, although in fairness they all wanted paying!
