There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Stratford and Uttoxeter, meanwhile it is the start of the turf season on the flat with Doncaster opening proceedings supported by all-weather fixtures from Kempton and Chelmsford.  David has two runners at Stratford; Poisoned Berry and Monetaire while Great Tempo runs at Uttoxeter.  Poisoned Berry has won a couple of times this season and drops in grade into selling company, although this does look like a competitive race for the grade.  Monetaire (pictured above) runs in the 2m6f handicap chase and has his first start for 18 months - even so he still has to carry top weight of 11-11 - Tom Scudamore is on board both of our Stratford runners.  Meanwhile Great Tempo goes in a wide-open handicap hurdle at 3.05pm - he was an easy winner at Hexham earlier in the seasaon and he could outrun his odds under David Noonan.

Of yesterday's runners Stay Out Of Court was a little unlucky to hit the deck at the third last when still in with every chance at Wetherby, while Duc de Beauchene already looks as though he needs more of a test of stamina than the two miles - he was very promising on his debut and looks to have a bright future, especially when stepped up in distance.

The big race of the day though is the 22 runner Lincoln handicap at Doncaster on the level.  The race is worth £100,000 and is a contest with great heritage.  Historically the draw has always played a vital part in finding the winner so have a look and see where the runners are going in the earlier races.  The Roger Charlton trained Yuften has already had a pipe-opener on the all-weather and there seems to be plenty of support for the six year old.

I see that there was a schooling meeting at Thurles last week and the fixture was better attended than a lot of the race meetings, indeed Willie Mullins schooled 45 horses!  These fixtures seem like a really good idea and it might be something that the tracks in this country should consider doing - they could even make a few quid out of it!

There is a great local derby to look forward to this afternoon as Liverpool take on Everton and I reckon Liverpool look worth an interest at odds of 3/4.  Meanwhile there is an interesting bottom of the league clash between Watford and Sunderland and I will be doubling Liverpool with Watford at 20/23.

What an amazing victory for Johanna Konta yesterday as she beat Venus Wiliams in the Miami Open tennis - it is easily the biggest success of her career and if she goes on to beat Caroline Wozniacki in the final she will be the first Brit since 2009 to win a major title.

I have been having real trouble with my dog.  He chases people on a bike...it became so bad that I had to take his bicycle away!  Keep smiling...
