There are only two meetings taking place this afternoon - a jumps card from Kempton and an all-weather flat fixture from Southwell.  Unfortunately Newton Abbot were forced to abandon their intended fixture a couple of days ago due to waterlogging.  It really is amazing as I only live 10 miles from Newton Abbot and it has seemed like summer down here over the last few days, in fact many of the members at my local golf course have been playing in shorts and short sleeve tops.  David has one runner this afternoon as Juste Pour Nous contests the novices' hurdle at 2.00pm - our four year old was a winner on the flat a couple of outings ago and has schooled nicely at home.  Tom Scudamore is in the saddle.

I see that the five day weather forecast for Aintree looks good.  I always look forward to the Friday of the three day fixture as it is Lady's Day - the girls with their orange tans and new frocks always make me smile.  I hope I spot Matt Chapman among them - I am talking about his tan rather than his new frock!

There was bad news for jockey Kielen Woods yesterday as he suffered a suspected broken leg when falling at Huntingdon.  You have to feel sorry for him as he missed two months last year due to a broken arm and elbow and he looks set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Tom Scu's long journey up to Kelso yesterday was made worthwhile when he steered Grace Tara to victory - his percentage of the prize money will just about cover the petrol expenses!

Manchester United take on Everton tonight at 8pm on BT Sport.  United are 4/7 chances and that looks like an opportunity to buy some money.  Talking of football, I always have a wry smile when I see these youngsters turning up in their flash cars.  Rashford spends £30,000 a year to insure his £250,000 Bentley - that is more than most people earn in a year!  I have said it many times before, these people do not live in the real world.

I see that Miami Open champion Johanna Konta will miss the start of the clay court season after sustaining a shoulder injury.  Clearly it is nothing to do with the £900,000 she just won in the States as she looked pretty good there!  I have a terrible mind...she might even have an injury!

A topical gap for Easter...when I drive my car eggs shoot out of the boot.  It's a hatchback!
