There are three meetings taking place this afternoon, all of them on the flat with action from Bath, Lingfield and Newcastle.  I am amazed that there are no jumps meetings taking place considering it is a Bank Holiday and more people are able to get to the races.  Having said that, it wasn't so long ago that there was no racing at all on Good Friday - the betting shop staff used to get the day off but they will be open tonight until stupid o'clock watching a handful of people shoving fistfuls of notes in roulette machines...spare a thought for them!  Anyway, back to the racing and there is some amazing prize money on offer on the all-weather at Lingfield today.  One race is worth £200,000 while there are five more worth £150,000 each.  I am always complaining about the lack of prize money so I should say that this is brilliant (if a little over the top!).

If you are a jumps fan don't despair...there is always the Lambourn Open Day taking place today.  As well as getting a chance to have a look around the yards there will be a parade of champions such as Sprinter Sacre, Bobs Worth, Long Run and Buveur d'Air, while in the afternoon the likes of Noel Fehily and Nico de Boinville will take on legends of yesteryear Sir Anthony McCoy and John Francome in a showjumping challenge.  I bet AP hates being referred to as a legend of yesteryear!  It is all in a good cause and well worth a visit if you like your horses.

There was one lucky owner at Towcester yesterday as Some Finish finished alone in the three runner handicap chase meaning that connections won all £4,912 of the prize money.

We are lucky to have the yard situated in a beautiful part of the country on the Devon/Somerset border and there is always loads of wildlife about.  Only last night Susie Crockett managed to get the above picture of one our regular visitors to Pond House.

I was disappointed to do my dough on Manchester United last night as they only drew with Anderlecht, the home team equalising in the 87th minute.  Manchester United were the better team on the night but sloppy defence cost them the win and me my money!

Slow coach snooker player Fergal O'Brien took 2 hours 3 minutes and 41 seconds to defeat David Glibert yesterday.  Professional Matt Selt branded it 'pathetic' and I reckon they should put players like this on the clock...this made Cliff Thorburn look like Ronnie O'Sullivan!

Thought for the day...If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?!
