Today we just have two flat cards at Salisbury and Thirsk.  The jumps racing new season does not start until Monday at Kempton and Warwick so the jump boys can have a day's holiday!  I preferred it when the jumps season had a couple months off and started again at Newton Abbot but I guess those days have long gone!  It was good to see Brian Harding retiring from the saddle in one piece.  As I keep saying, it is good to know when to retire in any sport and I think the 44 year old jockey has made the right decision.

Jockey J J Slevin received a 21 day ban for using a whip that was worn and insufficiently padded and using it with excessive force.  I always thought the stewards looked at the whips before they went out to ride but it looks like they don't!

There are some cracking football matches today, Everton versus Chelsea at 2.05pm (funny time!), Manchester United v Swansea at 12 noon and Middlesborough v Man City at 2.05pm.  The big game of the day is a 4.30pm, Tottenham versus Arsenal.  They bet 10/11 Spurs, 4/9 Man United and they look interesting.  I will be sat in front of the television this afternoon with the remote although my poor wife will not be too pleased!

I see the FIFA boss has admitted taking £735,000 in bribes and the Guam FA chief is now suspended.  He pleaded guilty to three charges in a US court.  I just wonder how much more money has gone missing?!  If this guy did the auditing how will we ever know?

Kenneth Williams was in a film about someone making a chicken tikka, it was a curry on!  Have a good day.
