There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with all the action coming on the flat from Nottingham, Brighton, Yarmouth, Chelmsford and Wolverhampton. Somehow Wolverhampton get away with a total of £31,000 in prize money across their seven race card. This fixture is obviously not being run for the benefit of the owners or the horses, so who is making the money?

Celestial Path did not shape without promise at Warwick yesterday when fourth in the novices' hurdle.  He looks as though he could do with dropping back in trip and perhaps trying a sharper track in future.

I see that Mick Easterby's Puffa jacket is going up for auction.  Mick has never been seen without the green jacket on so first of all there will need to be an operation to remove it!  They say that it is over 50 years old and if it could tell the stories that Mick used to tell me and Martin, it would be worth an absolute fortune.  If you would like to place a bid on this iconic piece of fashion you can call 01347 878368 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. What a great comeback from snooker player Mark Selby to claim his third world championship in the last four years.  He was trailing four-time champion John Higgins 10-4 at one point before winning 12 of the next 14 frames to lead 16-12.  Higgins did make a fight of it but Selby prevailed 18-15 - it was a brilliant final, the only problem being that it did go on until quite late...perhaps they should consider bringing the final evening session forward an hour in future?

If you have not seen the goal that Emre Can scored for Liverpool against Watford you have missed an absolute cracker.  It was another one of those amazing overhead kicks -  I don't know how the players manage to get their bodies into those sort of positions.  The Liverpool win means that they go third in the Premier League behind Chelsea and Spurs.  Meanwhile, there is a cracking match on BT Sport tonight between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.  I will be having a bit of the 4/6 about Christiano Ronaldo to take Atletico apart.

I see that Lord Sebastian Coe is backing European athletics proposals to strip world records from anyone caught doping.  You know my stance on this by now - I would ban the lot of them for life, something that should be done in every sport.
