Today we have five fixtures taking place with flat cards from Ayr, Southwell, Chelmsford and Windsor as well as a jumps card from Stratford. David has one runner this afternoon as Citrus makes his chasing debut in the 2m6 1/2f novices' handicap chase at 3.50pm. He was a winner on good ground over hurdles and has schooled well at home. Tom Scudamore is in the saddle and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him run well at a big price.

Unsurprisingly it was another good weekend for the Aiden O'Brien team as they completed the 1,000/2,000 Guineas double.  He seems to have so many good horses in his care that he was able to land the 1,000 Guineas yesterday with his second string Winter at 9/1.  The favourite Rhododendron did not endure the best of passages and looked to be an unlucky loser.  Meanwhile O'Brien also had the 1,2,3 in the Irish Derby Trial with the outsider Douglas MaCarthur coming home in front at 9/1...it's a funny old game

I see that owners Fergus and Judith Wilson have made it on to the rich list.  I remember a few years ago Fergus invited myself and Martin up to Stevenage for Jimmy Greaves birthday party - what a good night that was.

When I look at the groups of people at the racecourse it is always the same old faces, just with a few more lines.  It seems a shame to me that we cannot extend the reach of the sport to the younger generations.  They were hailing Newmarket a success with 19,500 people in attendance on Saturday although let's be honest, there are some second division football teams who attract that many people.  There were nearly 5,000 people at Hamilton yesterday and that was put down to the nice weather.

I wasn't too impressed by Arsenal or Manchester United yesterday - both of them looking like fairly ordinary sides.  To me it looked as though United went out there with a view to not conceding too many goals.  It would seem that this will be Wayne Rooney's last season with United - he does not look anything like the player he once was...mind you, I don't suppose he is too bothered as he is another one on the rich list!  It looks like United need six quality players to make them contenders again.

Talking of football, what a manager my old mate 'Arry Redknapp is, keeping Birmingham in the Championship with a 1-0 win over Bristol City.  A great character and he should certainly be managing in the Premier League...come on chairmen, pull your fingers out!

Chelsea take on Middlesbro tonight on Sky Sports at 8pm but they are too short to back at 1/6.
