There are five meetings taking place this afternoon and we are spoiled by there being three jumps cards from Fakenham, Exeter and Ffos Las, meanwhile there are a couple of flat fixtures from Ayr and Leicester. David runs Mister Drifter in the 2.15pm race at Ffos Las and Purple 'N Gold and Gone Too Far in the 7.15pm from Exeter.

Purple 'N Gold has run some fantastic races down the years but he does have to shoulder top weight in the 2m3f handicap chase - he is still 1lb higher than his last winning mark...sadly, that is the price that you pay for consistency.  Meanwhile, in the same race Gone Too Far has been pulled up on three of his last four starts although he won this race last year.  He will certainly find this easier than the Scottish Grand National that he ran in last time!

Mister Drifter makes his hurdling debut in the maiden at Ffos Las over 2m4f.  He has shown a fair level of form in a couple of bumpers and has schooled well at home - he looks a big price at around the 10/1 mark.  Tom Scu is in the saddle before heading off to partner Purple 'N Gold.

The lack of rain is certainly beginning to take it's toll with Wincanton abandoning their meeting on Thursday, while the card at Carlisle is due to be an all-hurdles affair.

I was watching the football between Chelsea and Middlesbrough last night and it went much as you would expect with Chelsea winning 3-0 and Middlesbrough being relegated.  The biggest cheer of the night came when John Terry replaced David Lutz and Gary Cahill passed over the captain's armband.  Terry is a real Chelsea legend and I can see a few of the Premier sides looking to secure his services to show the young defenders what the game is all about.  Chelsea only need one more victory to become champions.

What a win for golfer John Daly who was victorious in Texas on Sunday.  It was his first title for 13 years - the 51 year old looks as though he has eaten all the cakes in those intervening years!  I did not realise that he was the only double Major winner never to feature in a Ryder Cup.  Now there's a fact to wow all your golfing friends!

I ordered a whole duck at the Chinese restaurant last night...it was great until I got to the bill!
