This afternoon there are just two jumps cards taking place with the action coming from Ludlow and Plumpton. David has one runner at Ludlow with Herbert Park contesting the three mile novices' handicap chase at 2.30pm. It is an open contest with £12,000 up for grabs and our charge has the ability to go well in a race of this nature although he is yet to replicate the best of his hurdles form over fences. Tom Scudamore is in the saddle.

The thing that keeps bothering me, is why does racing seem to be consistently missing the same trick?  Saturday and Sunday are the two days when traditionally most people will not be working and looking for some sort of leisure activity...why on earth are there not more than two meetings on?  I bet there will be a big crowd at Plumpton today - the station is right next to the course, so there is excellent access from all the major transport networks.  Many of the Londones catch the train straight to the course, saving the strain of driving and leaving them free to have a pint or two to boot, lovely jubbly!

I was looking through the card at Auteuil on Friday and I noticed that there was a three year olds' claiming hurdle and a four year olds' claiming chase.  I keep saying it, but I really do think there is room for more races of this sort of nature in this country.  Mind you, the French races were worth over £10,000 to the winner!

There is some good footballing action to look forward to this afternoon and I will be having a cheeky little acca on Crystal Palace at 11/10, Spurs at 8/11 and West Ham at 9/2.  There should be plenty of goals in the Tottenham Hotspur versus Manchester United game - it will just be interesting to see how strong a side United field.

I have been watching the Players' Championship golf and I have to say that course officials do put the pins in some very strange places.  Not only that, the greens are like putting on lino, they are that quick...certainly not for the faint-hearted.

I went on holiday to China recently and bought a new pair of shoes.  When I looked on the soles, it said "Made around the corner"!  Keep smiling...
