There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat action from Sandown, Goodwood, Catterick and Chelmsford City, while there is a jumps fixture from Warwick.  David has one runner today as Gabrial The Great (pictured above) contests the two mile handicap chase at Warwick at 4.30pm.  Our eight year old won from a 3lbs lower mark at Uttoxeter last season so is not without a chance although he will need to improve on his most recent efforts.  Stable jockey Tom Scudamore is in the saddle.

There must have been a really strong following wind and lightning fast ground at Yarmouth yesterday as both 4/9 shot Cartographer and 100/1 chance Poke Pastime broke the track record.  Mind you, being by the seaside, you do tend to get some of these coastal breezes.

The card from Sandown tonight looks to be an absolute cracker and there are a couple of Group 3 contests and a Listed race on the bill and there look to be some good opportunities for favourite backers.  The Gosden/Dettori combination should strike with So Mi Dar who is my idea of a good thing.  If you are going, make sure you take your cameras for the traditional Dettori flying dismount!  The Group 3 over two miles could go to a fruit...I will leave you to work that one out, although I will give you a clue - there would be another flying dismount

What a good win for Manchester United last night as they beat Ajax 2-0 in the Europa Cup Final last night, meaning that they are back in the Champions League.  United have won two trophies this season but unless you win the Premiership it is deemed to be a disappointing season.  United are the fifth club to win all three European trophies.

There was also a good success for England's cricketers yesterday as they beat South Africa.  I must say, the last ten overs of the innings are always the most exciting with the batsman trying to know every ball out of the ground.  There was a tremendous innings of 107 runs from 93 balls from Eoin Morgan while Moeen Ali hit 77 from 51 balls.  South Africa never looked like getting anywhere near England's total.

Lee Westwood hit a fantastic hole in one at Wentworth yesterday at the 209 yards fifth hole.  There was a bar next to the hole so playing partners Ian Wright and Alan Shearer were lucky enough to get a free round of drinks!

Thought of the day for those youngsters taking exams at the moment...I used to enjoy exams so much that I usually took them twice!  Have a nice day...
