There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Ripon, Haydock, Sandown and Carlisle as well as a jumps card from Bangor.  David has two runners this afternoon; Vincent's Forever and Arkadios.  Vincent's Forever (pictured above) contests the 3.20pm at Bangor, a 2m3 1/2f handicap hurdle - he was decent on the flat and put up his best performance over hurdles to date last time when third at Taunton.  He wouldn't need to improve a great deal on that to figure here under Tom Scu.  Arkadios runs in the 2m7f handicap hurdle at 4.20pm.  He was in the process of running a cracker at Newton Abbot last time out until making bad mistakes at the final two flights.  He steps up in trip today but that could help him and he has the ability to go well in a race of this nature under regular rider Michael Heard.

I see that Matt Chapman was axed from the role of master of ceremonies on Derby day by Epsom racecourse against the wishes of broadcaster ITV.  He clearly displeased some of the more senior figures with his less than formal approach.  I cannot believe that the Jockey Club do not know what Matt is all about - yes, he can be over the top but surely they already knew that?!  We still like you at Pond House Matt (well, some of us anyway!).

Jockey Jane Elliott rode at Yarmouth on Tuesday before driving to Stanstead and boarding a flight for Glasgow.  She then embarked on two bus rides and a train journey to Hamilton before finishing runner-up on her only mount, now that is what you call a journey(wo)man jockey.  She then jumped in a taxi for the return trip...I hope she was getting paid her expenses!

Andy Murray was not at his best yesterday as he beat Kei Nishikori in four sets to set up a semi-final encounter in the French Open tennis yesterday.  If you can still get through when you are not at your best then you are in a pretty good position.  Djockovic was certainly not at his best as he crashed out 6-0 in the final set to Dominic Thiem.  Maybe this will help to spur Murray on?  Apparently Simona Halep will win the ladies' title and she is currently an 8/1 chance.  She won yesterday after being a set and 5-1 down...I hope that was only a scare!
