The stable enjoyed a nice winner at Worcester yesterday afternoon when Three Star General was successful in the fixed brush maiden hurdle.  Having led off the home turn he looked set for second when odds-on favourite Burrows Lane breezed into the lead under champion jockey Richard Johnson and went 5 lenghts clear but Tom Scu continued to persevere and Three Star General stayed on strongly after the last to reel him back in and win a shade cosily.  This will have done his confidence the world of good and with a rating of 120 already on file, he is a useful horse for this time of year and he could defy a penalty while he could also benefit from a step-up in trip.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Newbury, Nottingham and Haydock while there is jumping action at Fontwell and Uttoxeter.  David has three runners this afternoon; Purple 'N Gold at Fontwell and Prospera Pascha at Uttoxeter.  David Noonan takes the mount aboard Purple 'N Gold and if he put his best foot forward he would have decent claims despite top weight - he will love the ground although could possibly do with a bit further these days.

Over at Uttoxeter Prospera Pascha contests the mares' handicap hurdle at 5.55pm - she has finished third in both of her outings this term, is improving with experience and could go well under Tom Scudamore.  Meanwhile Aldrin makes his hurdling debut at 6.55pm having run creditably on the flat at Chester recently.  He had some decent form on the level at longer trips and has schooled well at home.

David Noonan is going to be busy this afternoon as he travels all the way to Fontwell before competing at Uttoxeter.  Let's hope that he is among the winners to help him pay for the petrol!

There look to be some interesting football matches for the first day of the new season with the announcement of the fixture list.  My beloved West Ham have to travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United while Newcastle take on Spurs, Chelsea play Burnley, Arsenal face Leicester and Watford play Liverpool - I can already see some potential wagers among that lot!

There was a disappointing performance from England in the Champions Trophy cricket semi-final yesterday as they were thrashed by Pakistan by 8 wickets.  England's total of 211 for 9 was never going to be enough - I have to say as the only unbeaten side left in the tournament I was expecting more, as were the bookies who made them 4/11 shots to reach the final...they certainly had that one wrong!

After I left University I removed one of my front teeth for twelve months...it was a gap year!
