The stable was among the winners again yesterday as Purple 'N Gold prevailed under a good front-running ride from David Noonan, landing the 2m1 1/2f handicap chase under top weight by 1 1/2 lengths.  David set sensible fractions aboard our ever popular eight year old gelding and he jumped really well and kept responding willingly to his jockeys urgings.  I bet Keith, his owner has a sore head this morning - he would certainly have been celebrating last night.  Meanwhile, over at Uttoxeter Aldrin produced a reasonable first effort over timber, finishing third in the two mile novices' hurdle.  There is room for improvement in his jumping, but once that is ironed out he looks like a winner waiting to happen.

There are six meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from York, Sandown, Goodwood and Chepstow while there are jumps fixtures from Newton Abbot and Aintree.  David does not have any runners today although jockeys Tom Scudamore and David Noonan have picked up outside rides at Newton Abbot.

The Queen is due to open Parliament on Wednesday.  She is certainly going to have to get her skates on otherwise she will be late for day two of Royal Ascot.  Her Majesty has not missed Royal Ascot for 64 years and I am sure she will not want to miss it on Wednesday.  We certainly need the Queen's speech - she seems to know more about what is going on than the government.

I noted a horse to keep an eye on yesterday at Nottingham.  Alwahsh won the one mile maiden by 7 lengths, recording the best time of the day despite a very strong headwind.  I wonder what the handicapper will have made of that effort.

What is going on with Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor?  Is it a boxing match or a wrestling match?  Regardless, the fans love to see these circus sideshows.  McGregor will get a cool £78 million for his part in it...not bad when you consider that in 2013 he was claiming welfare handouts of £165 a week!  Some of you may recall when Muhammed Ali fought a wrestler in Japan in 1976 - it should never have been allowed and the greatest embarrassed himself.

I see that Harry Redknapp is trying to get John Terry to join Birmingham - now that would be a great coup.  The Chelsea legend is certainly still capable of performing at this level...'Arry probably could as well!
