There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat action from Wolverhampton, Chepstow and Windsor, while there is also a jumps card from Southwell.  There are no runners from Pond House today although stable jockey Tom Scudamore travels to Southwell for just one ride for his brother.  He looks as though he will have a bit to do so I won't be trying the 'one ride' theory tonight!  Meanwhile, Chepstow kick off their card with an Arab race at 1.30pm - I am not sure how anyone can make it pay when you consider the £500 first prize - if you finish sixth you pick up a heady £40!

It sounds as though Newmarket need to sort out their concerts following a number of problems at the Little Mix gig at the weekend.  Little Mix will always attract a young audience and families, but the problem was the number of drunken louts all over the place.  One eight year old girl ended up with a black eye and Newmarket really need to get their act together as this is not acceptable.  Either sort out your security or stop hosting these bands!

There was a good initiative by Hexham racecourse to put up £100 prize money to the best turned-out horse in every race.  The grooms work very hard, often go unrecognised and do not earn a lot of money so this is a most welcome idea and one that all racecourses should consider copying.

It would seem that Formula One has finally become interesting!  There was some fight at the weekend between title contenders Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.  It was more like the wacky races with Vettel objecting to Hamilton's tactics and ramming into the side of Hamilton's Mercedes.  I get the feeling that there is no love lost between the pair, especially as Hamilton commented, "If he wants to prove he's a man let's go face to face".  The rest of the season should be very interesting!

England won the T20 cricket with an easy success over South Africa.  David Malam came in and hit a six with his first ball before going on to score 78 runs from 44 deliveries...my kind of batting.

What a great win for Petra Kvitova in the Aegon Classic in Birmingham.  It was her first win since her hand surgery following a knife attack in December.  She said, "I'm very happy, it's a kind of fairytale."
