Tom Scu on the Flat

There a seven meetings today and they are all on the flat at, Newcastle, Newmarket, York, Windsor, Chester, Doncaster and Lingfield.  The two big races are the Northumberland Plate and the Irish Derby.  The best thing that happened yesterday is that they taped up Matt Chapman's mouth! Chapman took a vow of silence for charity.  I am sure if he did this for a few more days he would raise thousands!  There is no jumps racing today but Tom Scu has a ride in the 4.50pm at York.  It is a jump jockeys handicap over 5f!  A lot of these jockeys will have never been this fast in their lives!  Tom Scu has said "I am not sure the track at York is quite ready for me to go burning down it!"

I see that Richard Hughes agrees with me in thinking that there needs to be more claiming races.  He says that if it was up to him there would be more claiming races every week and how long have I also been saying this?!

The Irish Derby looks like a very good race.  The first three in the betting are priced at 9/4, 5/2, and 11/4 so it looks a tight race according to the betting.  I just wonder if the favourite will like the ground, my vote is going to Cracksman.

Today is the start of the Tour De France.  It is not a sport I have ever got into but the best place to watch it from is in front of the TV!  If you are in the crowd, once they have gone past that is it and you don't get to see a lot of the race.  

New Zealand play the Lions at 8.35am on Sky Sports this morning.  Warren Gatland has really been winding them up out in New Zealand and I can see tackles flying in from everywhere and someone is bound to get hurt.  it was a good match last weekend and I am sure we are in for another cracker today, come on the Lions!

It seems to me that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger bids on new big name players in which he knows his bid is not enough.  He thinks this will be enough to keep the fans happy - how many players has he signed?!
