I see that details of next season's fixture list have been unveiled and there are going to be more meetings than ever before as well as record prize money levels, with a focus on increasing the prize money in the lower grade races.  It is about time something was done to address this so well done to the governing body for that, although whether it is enough only time will tell.  I see they have taken a little heed of what has been said about the end of the season coming too hot on the heels of the old with a week long break after the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown now on the cards.  Do you remember years ago when they had over a month off and the new season started at Newton Abbot?  Everyone came back refreshed and raring to go and the Palace Hotel in Torquay was full up.  Sadly that hotel closed last month,  how times change (and not always for the better).

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon, all on the flat with the action coming from Ffos Las, Musselburgh, Chelmsford City and Nottingham.  Unsurprisingly, David does not have any runners today.

It was a good day for Jim Goldie when he trained the first four home in the sprint handicap at Ayr yesterday.  I wonder what the record is for a single trainer having the most horses finish at the front of a race...I hope you know what I mean?!  Still, four is a good start.

I hope that Sky continue to support football in this country because God only knows what will happen if they pull out.  The transfer fees have been ridiculous for ages, but just lately they seem to have been even more ludicrous with every player seemingly worth £40-50 million (and they are not even the best players).  Don't forget, there is still five weeks of the transfer market still to go - how can a full back be worth £50 million?  It is all beyond me.  Manchester City have spent £160 million rebuilding their defence - I don't think the government spends that much on our defence!

Did you know that Open champion Jordan Spieth had previously been beaten by a girl?  That's right, he was beaten by Thai golfer Moriya Jutanugarn in the Junior Open in 2008.  It was also the Thai girls' first visit to England and first ever event on a links course.  Jack Nicklaus paid Spieth a huge compliment by saying, "He is much better than I was at his age" - it doesn't get much better than that.

I am in the dog house once again.  Mrs Barnes said she is leaving me because I keep pretending to be a Transformer.  I said "Wait, I can change!"  Keep smiling...
