Weekend Jottings

There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon with a flat card from Pontefract and a jumps card from Uttoxeter.  David has one runner today; Lady Of Longstone who contests the 2m7 1/2f handicap hurdle at 3.45pm.  Michael Heard is in the saddle and he claims a handy 5lbs off her back bringing her weight down to only 10-3.  She wouldn't want any more rain, although if it stays away she could run well in what looks like a competitive race.

I see that the Irish Turf Club has overturned a void race at Killarney upon appeal.  The horse in question, Sea The Stars had a running start having been led in and the local steward's deemed that he had gained an undue advantage.  Personally, although it is not ideal I think that each horse should be give every opportunity to race and the lead-in did just that.  I think that race should have stood and am pleased that Sea The Stars has been reinstated.

Talking of stewards I could not see that amateur jockey Conor Ore did anything wrong on Desertmore Ciew in the handicap at Uttoxeter on Friday.  He was banned for 12 days after his horse 'plugged on for a laboured third' according to the Post.  The horse was well backed from 8's into 5's but never looked like getting involved - I am not sure he did much wrong.  Equally, I am not sure his mount is much good.

I see that Wayne Rooney is a 4/6 chance to be Everton's top scorer in the Premier League this coming season.  With manager Ronald Koeman looking for another goal scorer, I don't think I would be backing Rooney at that prices, especially as you will have to wait an entire season before you can be paid out.  Perhaps bookmakers should be offering prices on the outfits that outlandish darts player Peter Wright will wear!  He is the one with the outrageous hair styles with all the different colours in it.  I wonder how long he spends in the mirror doing his hair?  I also wonder how long it will be before it all falls out?!

I went to the pet shop to buy a goldfish the other day.  The assistant asked me if I wanted to buy an aquarium.  I said, "I don't care what star sign it is!"
