Day three of our summer sabbatical and we have five flat cards taking place with the action coming from Pontefract, Brighton, Bath, Kempton and Yarmouth.  Talk about riding again, Hayley Turner is now taking Josephine Gordon's place at the Shergar Cup meeting at Ascot on Saturday.  One minute she is retired, the next she is riding everywhere.  Good luck to her I say...you are a long time retired.

It seemed to rain non-stop at Catterick yesterday and the person who suffered most for it would certainly have been the ice cream seller.  I don't think he would have seen a customer all day!  I was also watching the action from Leicester yesterday and one that went into my note book was Just In Time who stayed on very well on the soft ground to finish second in the 1m4f handicap.  He looks like a winner waiting to happen and I would envisage a hurdling career sooner rather than later.  Talking of hurdles, doesn't it seem quiet without any jumping to watch?

Former Pond House staff member Gordon Elliott could well have his first Group One winner on the level at the weekend as he has Beckford in the Pheonix Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.  He is unbeaten so far and the trainer says that he has improved since winning a Group 2 last time.

Even a ring rusty Real Madrid looked different class to Manchester United yesterday as they won 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup.  That despite not have Gareth Bale and not bringing Christiano Ronaldo on until the 82nd minute.  United's manager says that his side played more like a Europa League team - his record against Real Madrid now is one draw and four losses from five games.  Based on this evidence United are not going to win the Premiershp no matter how much money they throw at the team...sorry Tony!

Surely Aston Villa will win at Colchester in the first round of the EFL Cup tonight.  The trouble is they are a best-priced 4/7, although I suppose a cheekly little double with 1/2 Sheffield United would make it worthwhile.

The USPGA golf gets underway and I will be having an interest on Jordan Spieth at 10/1, Dustin Johnson at 14's and C Hoffman at 50's...you heard it here first!

Thought for the day...the closest most people ever get to perfection is when they are filling out a job application form!
