With jump racing returning on Wednesday there is light at the end of the tunnel!  Today there are four meetings taking place with the action once again all coming on the flat with meetings from Ayr, Ripon, Windsor and Wolverhampton.  As such it is therefore Unsurprising that there are no runners from Pond House.  There was a fabulous finish to the Group One contest at Deauville yesterday with Frankie Dettori coming out on top in a thrilling three-way photograph.  Meanwhile, Jamie Spencer scooped the Listed and Group Three contests for Luca Cumani and Charlie Appleby so it was a good day for the Brits abroad.

Peachey Carnehan is in line for a break - he has won two of his last three starts over the past 8 days.  I think I would be inclined to keep running him while he is in such good form and before the handicapper can have his say.

Over in Ireland Gordon Elliott's Beckford finished second in the Group One contest on the level at the Curragh behind, yes you guessed it...an Aidan O'Brien runner partnered by Ryan Moore.  I wonder how many miles Moore must do during the course of a weekend?

I don't wish to talk about football with my beloved Hammers losing 4-0, although I don't think the scoreline was necessarily a true reflection of the match.  If I was part of the FA I think I would ban Newcastle's Shelvey for at least a dozen matches.  He stood on Dele Alli's ankle while the Spurs player was on the floor right in front of the referee - he must be brain dead!  This is something that should not be allowed to stand and (pardon the pun) should be stamped out of football.

Rory McIlroy is tempted to pack his clubs away for the remainder of the year and declare 2017 a write-off.  This is the third year in a row in which he has failed to lift a major trophy.  Meanwhile Justin Thomas won the US PGA, his first major by two shots.  I must say, I don't know an awful lot about this player as there seem to be so many good golfers about who are all capable of winning these big tournaments when things go their way.
