Kalifourchon Southwell 2nd

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Thirsk, Lingfield and Windsor while there is a jumps card from Hexham.  The big race of the day is the final of the sprint series with a shade under £47,000 to the winner and it has attracted a good sixteen runner field.  It just goes to show that if you put good prize money up for grabs you will get a good line-up...common sense really!

I thought that Kalifourchon ran a cracker at Southwell yesterday and he looked as though he may prevail approaching the second last.  He stayed on well but found one just too good and it looks as though his turn is close to hand.

I have always thought that if a jockey strikes a horse other than in the manner allowed with a whip, he should be banned - it is such awful publicity for the sport.  Davy Russell is currently being investigated for allegedly hitting his mount with his fist.  The judge and jury of social media have already condemned his actions...what on earth was he thinking?

Many happy returns to owner William Frewen, who was the very lucky owner of Lough Derg who was one of the stables' all-time favourites.  We would certainly like a few more like him, the horse that is!  We hope you have a great day William.

Tottenham Hotspur had all of the play in their match against Chelsea at the weekend but still managed to lose 2-1.  Someone once said, "It's a funny old game!" and he played for both teams.  The Spurs goalkeeper should have saved the second goal but it went under his body.  I thought the fittest person at the match was the Chelsea manager Anotonio Conte - he runs about like a mad man.  I did say that Spur may struggle at Wembley and that could prove correct.

Meanwhile Manchester City take on Everton tonight at 8pm on Sky.  City are big odds-on and should be too good for the Toffees.

Apparently Usain Bolt is going to open a chain of fast food restaurants in Britain.  If it is anything like him, you should get your food pretty quickly!

Mrs Barnes has just told me that she thinks my brother is really ugly...I wouldn't mind, but he is my identical twin!  Keep smiling...
