There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Redcar and Newcastle while there is jumps action from Fakenham and  Wincanton.  David runs Red Square Revival (pictured above) in the 3.25pm race at Wincanton; a 3m1f handicap chase.  He was not beaten at all far when finishing third over 2½ miles at Warwick last time out from this same mark of 97 and looks as though he will appreciate this step-up in trip.  He should be in the shake-up under Tom Scudamore.

Bambi du Noyer could not follow-up his recent Exeter win at Uttoxeter yesterday despite being 11lbs ahead of the handicapper.  I think the handicapper probably over-reacted to that success and an 11lbs rise was harsh.  Having said that, there is no doubt that the rain made the ground extremely testing yesterday and while he won on very soft ground in France, this may have been softer than ideal.

There was a terrible storm in Brixham last night and apparently things are only going to get worse with the arrival of Storm Brian.  Let's hope it is gone before the big meeting at Ascot this weekend - the forecast isn't good though.

It looks like Ronald Koeman's days at Everton are numbered with the team losing at home to Lyon last night in the Europa League.  Everton are now rock bottom of Group E with just one point from three games.   Meanwhile, I have a great Friday night to look forward to with my beloved West Ham taking on Brighton on Sky - Mrs Barnes will no doubt be upstairs watching all the soaps.  I have already backed the Hammers at 9/10.

Snooker seems to be getting nuttier and nuttier - a woman ran into the arena yesterday at the English Open and of course, it involved Ronnie O'Sullivan.  She did a couple of laps of the table being chased by officials only for Ronnie (who had compiled a break of 129 with only the black left) to offer her his cue to pot the final ball.  She had two unsuccessful attempts before finally being led away.

Thought for the day...it is a mystery to me why police officers use drug-sniffing dogs rather than sober ones!
