There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Ascot, Catterick and Ffos Las, while there is an all-weather flat fixture from Newcastle.  David has one runner at Ffos Las as I'm Always Trying (pictured above) makes his racecourse debut in the conditional and amateur riders' bumper at 4.00pm.  Our four year old is partnered by Michael Heard who takes a handy 5lbs off his back.  He lacks the experience of a large number of these but he has shown ability at home and we will know more about him after today.  Meanwhile, over at Ascot stable jockey Tom Scudamore has picked up three outside rides.

Ascot host the Prince's Countryside Fun Charity race at 12.15pm and there will be plenty of people taking an interest when former England football star Michael Owen takes to the saddle to compete aboard Calder Prince.  I am not sure he will score as often on a horse as he did on the pitch but I wish him the very best of luck.

Over at Thurles yesterday Willie Mullins saddle a couple of winners but also suffered a couple of odds-on reverses...it's a funny old game.

I have been subjected to that I'm A Celebrity thing over the past week and I have to say that the only one of them I recognise is boxer Amir Khan.  Maybe it should be rebranded 'I'm Not A Celebrity'?!  Khan is said to have received a fee of £400,000 to appear in the show - at that sort of price you would have thought they could have attracted some more recognisable names!

Arsenal lost 1-0 to Cologne (who are bottom of the Bundesliga) last night.  You can always really on Wenger in the post match press conference and sure enough, "We lost the game to one shot, it was not a penalty".  A good loser as usual.

England were bowled out for 302 in the first match of the Ashes series against the Australians at the Gabba.  The good news is that the hosts have already lost some wickets.

Heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been sparring on top of the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai.  He follows Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and Andre Agassi who have all been to the top of the seven star building.  Sounds like a nice little earner to me.

A Roman walks into a bar and holds up two fingers and says, "I''ll have two beers please"!  Have a nice day...
