There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps action from Lingfield and Sedgefield while there is an all-weather flat card from Southwell.  David has one runner today as Saint John Henry contests the 3.00pm race from Lingfield; a 2m7½f handicap chase.  He won over 3m2f at Chepstow in good style on his chase debut and he should enjoy the testing ground.  He runs from a mark of 128 which is 6lbs higher than his run at Chepstow and if he replicates that effort he could go close under Tom Scu.

Talking of Tom Scu, he is understandably looking forward to riding Thistlecrack in the Long Distance hurdle at Newbury on Friday.  His last run was over fences when a close second to Many Clouds at Cheltenham in January.  Tom said he was 'very excited and just looking forward to getting back on him. He's had nearly a year off so I'm looking forward to seeing if he can over hurdles'.  It should certainly be an interesting race with the likes of Unowhatimeanharry in opposition.

The BHA were left red faced when four out of five Northern Lights series finals at Carlisle on Sunday had to be reopened as they had not attracted enough entries.  As far as I can see this goes back to what I was saying last week - there is now too much racing. What do you think?

The football managers scene seems to be one big merry-go-round.  The bosses are in and out of work in the blink of the eye, picking up nice pay-offs and then finding another job almost immediately.  It looks like Everton will have Sam Allardyce and Alan Pardew will be managing West Brom.  So, Everton can look forward to one attacking player and ten men behind the ball.  Why don;'t they give some of the younger managers from a lower division a chance?  The same old faces seem to get all the best jobs and that is clearly not always the best way forward.

I went out for dinner last night and thought that I would try something new, so I ordered a pelican curry.  The food was okay, but the bill was enormous!  Have a nice day...
