There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Hereford and Wetherby as well as flat action from Wolverhampton and Kempton.  David has three runners at Hereford; Bear Spirit, Lady Of Longstone and Irish Prince.  Bear Spirit contests the 3m1½f maiden hurdle at 1.35pm -  our four year old is having his first ever run and faces more experienced rivals.  He has schooled well at home and we will know more about him after this run.  Lady Of Longstone (pictured above) takes in the 2m3½f handicap hurdle at 3.15pm and she is well handicapped on the pick of her form, she will like the ground and is partnered by regular rider Michael Heard who claims a handy 5lbs.  Irish Prince makes his second start in the closing bumper at 3.45pm.  He ran respectably in what was probably quite a deep bumper at Newbury and he is entitled to have come on for it and a big run is expected.  Tom Scu is in the saddle.

Saint John Henry ran a decent race yesterday to finish third in the staying handicap chase at Lingfield.  He looked as though he was going to finish well beaten in the back straight before staying on again in the closing stages.  He is not the biggest and looks as though he could probably do with dropping a few pounds in the weights as he is still 6lbs above his last winning mark.

There is a nice picture of Vieux Lion Rouge winning last season's Becher Chase at Aintree in the Racing Post today.  It would be great if he were able to do it again.

There was a good result for Manchester United last night as they beat Watford 4-2.  Ashley Young scored twice although I am not quite sure what position he is playing at the moment...he almost seems to be a full back.  Anyway, much as it pains me to say it, well done United!

There are some terrible matches taking place tonight with my team West Ham playing Everton - both teams are playing awful football at present.  Bournemouth could be a decent bet at even money to beat Burnley.  Perhaps an acca is the way forward with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City all likely winners at short odds.

The UK snooker championship saw something of a Chinese takeaway yesterday when two-time winner Ding Junhui was beaten by Irish journeyman Leo Fernandez.  Ding lost the last five frames as he was defeated 6-5.  The Irish lad picks up at least £5,000, by far his biggest pay cheque to date.

Thought for the day...Am I the only one that finds it un-nerving that when you go to see a doctor, it is at a practice?!
