There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps action coming from Southwell and Lingfield and well as an all-weather flat card from Wolverhampton.  David has one runner this afternoon as Delface (pictured above) contests the 2m3½f handicap hurdle at 3.30pm.  He is already a winner at Wexford and Ffos Las and is entitled to have come on for his recent run at Leicester.  The step-up in trip should help him and he looks to have sound each-way prospects under Tom Scudamore.

I thought that Shaama Grise ran an encouraging first race over fences at Plumpton yesterday, finishing runner-up to a potentially useful winner.  While she jumped well, she was just spending that bit more time in the air than her more experienced rival.  She will benefit from a slightly longer trip in future and looks like a winner waiting to happen over fences.

Willy Twiston-Davies has decided to hang up his boots and hopes to become a trainer and has his eye on taking over from father Nigel one day.  I wonder what Nigel thinks about that?!  Willy is only 23 but has taken a few nasty falls so who can blame him for wanting to get out in one piece?

Cheltenham Council are supposedly going to try to stamp out ticket touts asking if you have any spare tickets for sale.  They do it all the way from the city centre to the racecourse, so how they propose to stop it I have no idea.  They will need plenty of police or racecourse officials and the cost would probably outweigh the benefit.  It goes on in most sports and football is probably the worst for it.  Let's be honest though, how are they really any worse than these big companies that bulk-buy the tickets and sell them back at vastly inflated prices online?

There is a good football match to look forward to tonight as Manchester United take on CSKA Moscow.  United are 4/9 chances and I will be putting them in a treble with Celtic at 10/11 and Barcelona at 4/9.  Talking of football, what a Cup draw...Liverpool versus Everton, you couldn't make it up.

England have put themselves back in with an outside chance of success in the second Ashes test match thanks to the great bowling of Jimmy Anderson.  Australia were bowled out for 138 with Anderson claiming 5 wickets.  England need a big score and I just hope they want to stuff the Aussies as much as I do!

I can't believe I was sacked from the calendar factory...all I did was take a day off!  Keep smiling...
