David enjoyed a nice winner at Newbury yesterday afternoon when promising young hurdler Friday Night Light landed the 2m handicap hurdle in tenacious fashion under David Noonan.  With the runner-up due to go up in future handicaps and the pair clear of the remainder, this looks like solid form and he seems a progressive individual who can go on to better things.  There is still a 50% share in him for sale and further details can be found on the 'Horses For Sale' page.  Meanwhile, It's Obvious ran well at Market Rasen despite the burden of 12-3 and he looks like a winner waiting to happen.

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps action from Wincanton and Ludlow as well as all-weather flat cards from Southwell and Chelmsford City.  David has runners at both jumps tracks.  Martabot contests the 1.40pm race at Wincanton, a 2m5½f handicap hurdle.  This is his first start for 303 days and if he can reproduce some of his best form, he would have each-way claims under David Noonan.  Also at Wincanton, Rathlin Rose competes in the Somerset National at 2.10pm.  It is a 3m2½f handicap chase and that should suit him down to the ground.  He didn't quite get home over an extra 3 furlongs on desperate ground at Chepstow last time in the Welsh National and so long as this does not come too soon, he looks to have a good chance.

Over at Ludlow Shaama Grise looks to have a good chance in the 2m4f novices' chase at 1.30pm.  She is a very consistent mare who has jumped well on her two chase starts to date.  Our last runner of the day is Three Star General who runs in the 3m handicap hurdle at 3.45pm.  He had some good form back in the summer when winning at Worcester - Tom Scu is aboard both Ludlow runners.

I see that Manchester United have signed Alexis Sanchez on a £118 million contract - that works out at £505,000 a week on a 4½ year deal.  Mind you, Arsenal could still go back on the deal if they can't find a replacement.  The result of the night was Wigan's 3-0 win over Bournemouth (as I found out to my cost).  Bournemouth made seven changes to their normal team so they obviously weren't bothered about the FA Cup, which is fine...now they are no longer in it!  Chelsea beat Norwich on penalties, although the Blues finished with just nine players.
