What a performance from Taj Badalandabad yesterday as he landed the Pertemps qualifier at Huntingdon for the second time when coming home 6l clear of his rivals under Tom Scudamore.  He has been another great buy from David - he finished runner-up in his Irish point-to-point to Minella Rocco (although the price tags were nothing like the same!)...form that isn't looking too shabby now.  I did say that if he returned to his old form he would have claims and so it proved - Taj has now won 7 of his 15 starts and it will be interesting to see what the handicapper does with him.  A significant rise would see him get into the final of the series at the Cheltenham Festival.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Cheltenham, Doncaster and Uttoxeter as well as all-weather flat fixtures from Kempton and Lingfield.  There are no runners from Pond House today although I see that Tom Scudamore has picked up 5 rides at Cheltenham this afternoon and he looks to have a few decent chances.  The big race of the day is the Cotswold Chase at 2.25pm and the interesting one is undoubtedly Bristol de Mai - on occasions he has looked other-worldly, but not so on an undulating track or ground anything other than heavy.

I see that Imperial Cup sponsors Matchbook are doubling their bonus from £50,000 to £100,000 for any horse that wins the Sandown race and then follows-up in any race at the Cheltenham Festival the following week.  The last horse to complete the double was David's filly Gaspara in 2007.  It is a great double to go for and one that the stable has also plundered with the likes of Olympian and Blowing Wind.  I am sure the increase has not been lost on David!

Brighton take on Middlesbrough today in the FA Cup and their chairman Tony Bloom will have a few quid to stick on his team following the success of his Kansas City Chief at Doncaster yesterday.  The horse was backed from 9/1 into 9/2 - I wonder if there is a ticket with a Doncaster, Brighton double tucked away anywhere?!

Manchester United beat Yeovil 4-0 last night and £505,000 per week player Alexis Sanchez made two of the goals.  Sadly local side Yeovil were never really in it.

The best game today would appear to be between Liverpool and West Brom and coverage starts at 7.45pm.  I will be having a cheeky little treble on a few short ones: Millwall at 4/7, Swansea at 19/20 and Leicester at 5/8.

Just a word of caution - if you are looking through the birthday's in today's Racing Post, the bit about my age is all lies!!!

Thought for the day...the world is round, so it has no point!  Have a nice weekend...
