There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Southwell and Newcastle (pending an early morning inspection), while there is also an all-weather flat fixture from Wolverhampton.  Let's hope that the Newcastle meeting gets the go ahead as Tom Scu makes the long journey north for just one ride - hopefully he will be lucky.  The stable had runners at Taunton yesterday and Friday Night Light fared best of those when second in the handicap hurdle - he looks as though he would prefer a return to a stiffer track and should soon regain the winning thread.

There was some excellent racing over the weekend at the Dublin Festival at Leopardstown featuring the Irish Champion Hurdle and Gold Cup.  Faugheen was an alarming drifter earlier in the week and he promptly got beaten in the former by Supasundae.  While it was a perfectly respectable effort, it was not within a stone and a half of his best from his glory days.  His trainer says that he is still on course for Cheltenham although I wouldn't be in any hurry to rush in to back him.

What an excellent match at Anfield between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur with it finishing up a 2-2 draw.  The referee awarded Spurs two late penalties with Kane scoring one and missing one.  Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was at his sarcastic best when applauding the referee off the pitch at the end of the game.  For once I have to say that Klopp was right, the ref had a stinker.

Great Britain lost their Davis Cup tennis match against Spain at the weekend which is no great surprise given that our two best players are out through injury.  They must now win a play-off in September to avoid relegation from the world's elite 16 nations.  I am not sure the Davis Cup is what it used to be, it would appear that most of the best players are not interested in representing their country.

There was a thrilling finish to the Superbowl last night with the underdog Philadelphia Eagles getting the better of the defending champions the New England Patriots, although it went down to the very last play of the game.
