There are just two jumps cards taking place this afternoon with the action coming from Ffos Las and Market Rasen.  There are no runners from Pond House today although stable jockey Tom Scudamore travels all the way to Market Rasen for just one ride for his brother.  It does not look to be without a chance so hopefully Tom will be able to make the long journey worthwhile.

I see that jockey Sam Twiston-Davies has criticised the state of some of the stable staff canteens at the racecourses and I have to say that from my past experiences I tend to agree.  While 65p for a mug of coffee is hardly Starbucks prices, they are prohibitive for some, while frozen carrots for lunch may be alright for horses, but hardly appropriate for the lads and lasses that keep the racing industry going behind the scenes...especially when you consider that this was at a supposed Grade One track.

I wonder how the Mullins' pair Faugheen and Douvan will fare at the forthcoming Cheltenham Festival?  Apparently they are both in good form but have you ever heard a trainer say any different?  Neither have I!  Anyway, Faugheen has not looked to be within a stone and a half of his brilliant best, while when Douvan will reappear seems to be anyone's guess.  Intriguing indeed.

The Government of Abu Dhabi is looking to recruit an equestrian stable manager, endurance trainer, speed trainer and a horse breeder.  It looks as though they are looking for a full complement of stable staff and it will be a lot warmer over there.  I am sure such conditions will attract some interesting applicants.

If you take a football team to Spain for a training session I'm afraid you are just asking for trouble and so it proved for bottom of the table West Brom.  Captain Johnny Evans, Gareth Barry, Jake Livermore and Boaz Myhill stole a taxi during their stay and have escaped without being arrested but it is still an embarrassing situation for the club and one that should not have occurred.  What is wrong with training in the Midlands?  On second thoughts...

I see that tennis legend Roger Federer is back at the top of the men's world rankings.  At the grand old age of 36(!) he becomes the oldest man to be number one in the world - the previous oldest was Andre Agassi who was 33 in 2003.  What an amazing man.

There is only one football match taking place this afternoon with Rochdale taking on Spurs.  Spurs are 1/4 so you are not going to get rich backing them...a watching brief is advised - Mrs Barnes will be pleased!

I played poker with an origami expert last night.  What a waste of time, he just kept folding!  Have a nice weekend...
