There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards at Chepstow, Kempton and Newcastle as well as all-weather flat cards from Lingfield and Wolverhampton.  David has two runners today at Chepstow as Garran City and Poker Play compete at Chepstow.  Garran City makes his belated debut for the stable in the 2m3½f maiden hurdle at 1.55pm.  Our seven year old was a winner of an Irish point-to-point on his only start (a race which has worked out quite well) and he goes nicely at home.  He is entitled to come on for the run and we will know more about him after today.  Poker Play runs in the 2m7½f handicap hurdle at 3.40pm and he produced a solid effort when third last time.  If he can build on that effort he would have a chance from his light weight.  Tom Scudamore is aboard both of our runners this afternoon.

The big races of the day are the Betdaq handicap chase at Kempton at 3.35pm, worth £100,000, while up at Newcastle the Eider Chase (worth £90,000) is the feature.  Both are fiercely competitive races as you would expect for the prize money on offer.  Meanwhile, over at Lingfield Ryan Moore and Aidan O'Brien could be on the mark with Clear Skies at 3.15pm.

I see that Warwick have announced record crowds to their recent half term fixture after they dropped the price of admission to just £5 for adults.  What a great idea to get families through the turnstiles.  The younger generation are the future of our sport and I can't understand why more courses are not trying to engage with the youngsters.

The early kick-off today is Leicester versus Stoke and the big question is whether Stoke can stop Vardy?  I doubt it somehow so I will be backing Leicester at 8/11 along with Bournemouth at 23/20 to beat Newcastle.

Tiger Woods managed to make the cut for the Honda Classic which was a good effort when so many players seemed to find the course difficult, particularly the greens.  The TV pundits were quite keen to pick holes in Rory McIlroy with 2001 Open champion David Duval say that his putting seems mechanical and forced.  Having said that, he does seem dodgy from about 6 feet away, although I would be quite happy with his talent (and money!).

I recently joined a local gym.  So far I've lost ninety pounds, but no weight!  Have a great weekend...
