There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Fontwell and Southwell.  Let's hope that we do not get the weather that is forecast - it has already become really cold in the west country over the last few days, so let's hope the 'beast from the east' doesn't materialise!  Anyway, I digress...there are no runners from Pond House today, although stable jockey Tom Scudamore heads off to Southwell for just one outside ride so hopefully that will go well for him.  There is some good prize money up for grabs at Fontwell today, including the first race which is worth £20,000 - there are only three runners declared (and one of those ran yesterday), I bet racecourse officials are gutted.

I see that Cheltenham are concerned about the forecast cold snap and have already put the covers down on the track.  They do a marvelous job at the course and the last time they lost an afternoon at the Festival to frost was Gold Cup day in 1978.  They later ran the race in April...and yes, for the anoraks out there, I am aware that they lost a day to high winds in 2008!  Ladbrokes are being generous as ever(!) and offering 16/1 that any day of this year's Festival is abandoned.  I don't think they will get many takers.

Talking of covers, it is a precaution we take at Pond House as well and our gallops have been under a nice fleecy cover for the last few days.  It is an extremely rare occurrence when we are not able to use the gallops.  Even so, we have a fantastic undercover canter to cater for any such eventuality.

It is that time of the year when the owners and trainers start discussing which horse should run where at the forthcoming Festivals.  Personally (and I would say this I suppose) I think the trainer should know best, although I am sure there are going to be plenty of trainers who are over-ridden during the next few weeks.

Today is the final of the League Cup at 4.30pm and Arsenal take on Manchester City.  City are 8/13 and if they play to form then their attacking style should be too good for Arsenal's oor defence.  Manchester United play Chelsea at 2.30pm and this match could get a bit tasty and I wouldn't be surprised to see a few bookings or even a red card.  United look worth an interest at 13/10 and I will be sticking them in a little multiple with Spurs, who should be too good for Crystal Palace.

What's the difference between a divorce and a legal separation?  A legal separation give a husband time to hide his money!  You would think that I would have learned by now!
