There are (hopefully!) four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards at Ayr and Plumpton as well as a couple of all-weather flat fixtures from Lingfield and Wolverhampton.  The good news is that Plumpton have been give the green light following an early morning inspection, although Ayr still need to pass theirs.  It was -4ºc at the top of Telegraph Hill next to Exeter racecourse this morning as I was driving to the yard.  It bet it is a fair bit colder than that up north.

Looking back to the weekend, I thought that both of our runners performed with credit at Chepstow on Saturday.  Garran City and Poker Play both finished third and I was particularly taken with Garran City who was having only his second ever start (and his first for 700 days) - he looked like he could win for much of the way before yielding close home.  He looks as though he will get further and will jump fences in time.  It is good to see the horses in good form with Cheltenham getting closer.

What a joke of a race at Fontwell yesterday.  It was reduced to just two runners after one was a non-runner having competed the day before.  Matters were made worse when one of the remaining competitors unseated rider at the second allowing the winner to come home alone with Copain de Classe picking up £16,400 for nothing more than a schooling session.  I keep saying it, but these races do nothing for the sport and clearly something needs to change.  I see that one of the winning owners was Jeremy Kyle - I had better be careful what I say, otherwise I could end up being on his show!

I hope a few of you followed me with my football bets.  Manchester City, United and Spurs all prevailed so I can afford to eat for the rest of this week!  I watched the Carabao Cup Final and Manchester City look completely different class to Arsenal.  To me, it looks as though plenty of the Arsenal players do not want to be there - City players chased everything, something that could not be said for Arsenal.  I wonder how long Gunners manager Arsene Wenger will continue to believe that he is the right man for the job?  Mind you, he still has 16 months left of his £8million per year contract.

I don't follow rugby so I won't mention that match against Scotland at the weekend!  Sorry Sean.

Ronnie O'Sullivan won his fourth ranking title for the first time in his career yesterday when he hammered Din Junhui 10-3 in the World Grand Prix.  While still a princely sum, The Rocket picked up £100,000...about a fifth of a professional footballer's weekly wage!
