There is just one meeting taking place this afternoon; an all-weather flat fixture from Southwell.  I have to be honest, I am very surprised that Exeter took the decision to abandon their meeting today and along with it, the Cheltenham preview evening that was scheduled for tonight.  I played golf nearby yesterday afternoon and it was like a summer's day.  Hopefully all the courses will have had a chance to dry out by the weekend, especially Cheltenham with the Festival kicking off a week today.

Let's hope a few more paying customers turn up at Southwell for their replacement meeting last week.  The grounds people have done a great job of getting so many meetings on and they deserve more support from the locals.

The Cheltenham Festival received a boost when it was revealed that leading rider Ruby Walsh is scheduled to return to race riding this week.  I am sure he won't be over-doing it, but a couple of nice rides before then will certainly help to blow away any cobwebs.

Looking at the Racing Post this morning, I noticed a picture of a mud splattered A P McCoy having won the Imperial Cup aboard an MCP trained five year old.  It asks, what year were they successful?  I will have to ask Gail!

I watched the Crystal Palace versus Manchester United match last night and it proved very entertaining, not least owing to the number of mistakes made.  United scored the winner in injury time, but manager Jose Mourinho is likely to face a fine after kicking a bottle into the crowd.  In fairness, he kicked it straighter than a lot of his defenders!

Phil Mickelson won in a playoff to win the WGC Mexico Championship, his first success in nearly five years.  It is good for the sport as everyone seems to love Mickelson, well with the possible exception of Justin Thomas who he beat in the playoff!

I like Gary Monk but I think he has been thrown in at the deep end at Birmingham.  He is their fifth boss in 15 months and it's his 39th birthday today.  Good luck Gary, I think you may need it!

I found an ideal mother's day present for my mother-in-law in the loft.  I'll take it up to her later!  Keep smiling...

By the way, the picture I referred to earlier was Blowing Wind winning the 1998 Imperial Cup.  Gail...Blowing Wind - get it?!
