Rathlin Rose couldn't complete the 'double double' at Sandown yesterday but still ran a mighty race in defeat under Captain Guy Disney.  Indeed, in finishing second, beaten only 1¾ lengths while trying to concede 5lbs to the improving winner, ironically this was probably a better performance than in any three of his victories!  He would certainly have benefited from a better gallop and can be winning again before long.  Three Star General also performed creditably in the closing handicap hurdle, finishing third.  He was impeded at the second last, but for which he would have finished a bit closer and he looks as though he will benefit from a return to further too.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Ayr, Hereford and Sandown, while there is flat action on the all-weather at Chelmsford City and Wolverhampton.  David has two runners today at Sandown; Friday Night Light and Queen's Cave.  Friday Night Light (pictured above) contests the Imperial Cup at 2.25pm, a race that David has won in the past with Gaspara, Ashkazar and Baltimore Rock.  Our improving novice only has 10-2 on his back and will like the give underfoot - he has been most consistent this term and looks to have a decent shout under Tom Scudamore.  Queen's Cave runs in the Listed mares' bumper and she looked very good when winning an Irish point and a bumper.  This represents a step-up in class and is a hot looking race, but this track should suit and she should go well.

Many happy returns to legendary owner J P McManus who is 67 today.  I wonder what you get the man who has everything he wants for his birthday?  I am sure top of his list will be a winner at the Cheltenham Festival next week.  Happy birthday JP!

I am looking forward to the match between Manchester United and Liverpool tonight.  It is on Sky at 12.30pm and there have to be goals in this match as United's defense is so poor.  Liverpool will score and look worth a bet at 9/5.  Meanwhile, my beloved Hammers are at home to Burnley and I will be having a little wager on them at 11/8...now you know that I am completely bonkers!

Tiger Woods played brilliantly yesterday and shot a 3 under par 68.  I wonder if he can keep it up for another couple of rounds?

Did you hear about the ship carrying a consignment of yo-yo's?  It sank 58 times!  Have a nice weekend...
