There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Ludlow and Chepstow and all-weather flat fixtures from Wolverhampton and Chelmsford City.  There are no runners from Pond House today, although stable jockey Tom Scudamore has picked up a few outside rides at Chepstow.  The stable had two runners at Chepstow yesterday and they both performed creditably to fill the places.  I thought that Garran City was going to win between the last two but he was collared close home to finish second, beaten a neck.  This former winning Irish pointer looks as though he wants a step-up in trip and will make a smashing staying chaser in time.  Meanwhile, Great Tempo showed his best form for a while when a close third in the handicap hurdle.  He looks as though his turn won't be far away judged on this...leave him alone Mr Handicapper!

What about lucky punter Martin Palk?  He won £168,751 for his £1 each way Lucky 31 bet - looking at the prices of his winners, I can see why they call it a 'Lucky 31'!  He lives just down the road from the yard in Tiverton and will be taking six lucky pals on a trip to Las Vegas.  If there's any left at the end of that, perhaps he should consider having a horse at Pond House?!

It always amuses me when a trainer claims to be surprised by a winner, especially when they are well backed.  That was the case yesterday when Ballinabearna won by 6 lengths at Limerick yesterday and was supported from 7/1 into 9/2.  It was a good job, but not expected?  Who is he trying to kid?!

What a match for the Welsh team as they travel all the way to China for Ryan Giggs' first game as manager.  The Chinese are absolutely mad for sport and ping pong is still the national sport over there.  At one international match, they had 25,000 people in attendance and the same number of people outside the stadium just listening to the score.  Anyway, I digress...the best price about the Welsh is 17/20 and they look worth an interest.

It looks as though I have done my money on England's cricketers.  We were bowled out for a meagre 58 runs, talk about useless!  My mate said that the pitch would suit our bowlers, let's hope that he is right, although the home team are already ahead of us.  At least Wigan were able to get me out of trouble by beating Walsall 3-0 last night.

I tried to watch the World Origami Championships yesterday.  Unfortunately it was only on paper view!  Have a nice day...
