There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Kelso, Uttoxeter and Fakenham and flat fixtures from Kempton and Wolverhampton.  David has two runners today at Uttoxeter; I'm Always Trying in the 2m7½f handicap hurdle at 4.15pm and Saint John Henry in the staying handicap chase at 4.50pm.  I'm Always Trying finished runner-up to Springtown Lake, who wasn't disgraced at the Cheltenham Festival next time out, although he doesn't look thrown-in from an opening mark of 109 and would probably need to improve on what he has done so far in a competitive little race.  Saint John Henry (pictured above) is something of an enigma - he won first time out at Chepstow this season, form that has worked out exceptionally well although he has struggled since.  He is undeniably well-treated from a 6lbs lower mark and a resurgence is not beyond possibility, although you would not be confident.

There are four races from Kelso on ITV 4 this afternoon and there is some very good prize money up for grabs, so well done to everybody at the course for a job well done.  With many of the other tracks falling by the wayside owing to the weather, this gives them a good showcase to attract racegoers to the course.

I see that Ryan Moore travels over to Keeneland today where he rides Marconi in the Grade 2 Blue Grass Stakes.  It looks like he could miss the 2,000 Guineas to ride market leader Mendelssohn in the Kentucky Derby.  Moore is widely considered to be the best flat jockey in the world at present - it must be a nice dilemma to have when you are considering whether you would rather win a 2,000 Guineas or Kentucky Derby!

With the Grand National at Aintree only a week away, we thought it would be fun to ask a few Grand National related quiz questions in the run-up to the big day (just for fun!)..

* Which is the only horse to have won the Grand National three times, and who were the jockeys?

* Which horse ran in eight Grand Nationals, won two and ran his last race in 1904 at the age of 16?

* What does the Saxon name at Aintree mean?

Answers tomorrow along with a new set of questions!

I have enjoyed watching the coverage of the Masters golf so far and Patrick Reed is in the lead at 9 under par having shot a great round of 66 in the second round.  Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy posted a second round of 71 and lies in joint fourth at 4 under par with Jordan Spieth, so they are nicely placed.  The greens look exceptionally difficult and are making a number of the pro's look like beginners.  Tiger Woods and Phil Mickleson both look to be struggling, while Fred Couples, now 58 made the cut for the 30th time in his 33 appearances at Augusta and he still looks a wonderful player.

I hope a few of you followed me and backed Wolves last night.  Today I will be having a little wager on Bournemouth at 6/4, Brighton at 10/11, Leicester at evens and Mancehester City at 10/11.  My beloved Hammers play tomorrow at Chelsea and I could be tempted by a bit of the 12/1...please don't tell me I'm mad!
