There are three meetings taking place this afternoon and they are all over the sticks with the action from Market Rasen, Stratford and Wincanton.  There are no runners from Pond House today, although stable jockey Tom Scudamore has picked up three outside rides and a couple of them look to have decent prospects.  While obviously my first love is jump racing, I am not sure that three National Hunt fixtures on a Sunday is the way to go.  Surely a mix of flat and jumps across the country would cater for more racing fans tastes?

There is some excellent racing to look forward to at the Punchestown Festival in Ireland this week.  Willie Mullins would appear to have most of his stable entered there as he tries to reel in Gordon Elliott in the race for the trainers' championship.  He managed to do it last year and it looks likely to be another thrilling finish this time around.

I see that former Pond House stable jockey Richard Dunwoody has just completed the North Korean marathon.  Fair play to him for doing it (I wouldn't fancy running a marathon anywhere!) but of all the places, why North Korea?  I didn't always see eye to eye with 'Woody' when he was Martin's stable jockey and I will never forget the time I gave him riding instructions for a hold-up horse.  Richard duly took the running up too early and managed to get the horse beaten.  After the race he said that he would not take instructions from a ping pong player!  Perhaps he should have...the horse in question went on to win loads of races afterwards!

There is lots of football to look forward to today.  My team, West Ham takes on Arsenal at 1.30pm on television so you all know where to find me!  The prices all look too short for a wager with Manchester City at 1/7 and Arsenal at 4/7.  I might just back Burnley at 13/5 to beat Stoke away from home.

I see that Sir Anthony McCoy was back in Ireland this week for the opening of his boss, J P McManus' new golf course at Adare Manor.  They tell me that he had the top four golfers in Ireland to play the opening round.  AP certainly wouldn't have been one of those!

The world championship snooker started yesterday at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield and Ronnie O'Sullivan, who has been the winning-most player on the tour this season, bids to join snooker legend Steve Davis on six world titles.
