There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Hamilton, Wolverhampton, Kempton and Wetherby as well as jumps action from Uttoxeter.  There are no runners from Pond House today, although stable jockeys Tom Scudamore and David Noonan have both picked up rides at Uttoxeter so let's hope they have a productive day.

I thought that Delirant was far from disgraced on his first start in a long time at Bangor yesterday afternoon.  It was a hot contest for the time of year and yet he travelled into the race like a quality animal before finishing fourth.  His wins in France were both on heavy ground, so there is no doubt that he will handle softer conditions while a longer trip wouldn't hurt either.  He is fully entitled to benefit for this experience and can only improve.

Andrew Thornton has his last rides this afternoon at Uttoxeter before retiring and I had to laugh at his comments.  He said, "It is an honour to have a race named after me, particularly as I'm still alive!"  There is a good picture in the Racing Post of Andrew soaking Sir Anthony McCoy with champagne when he retired...I wonder if AP will decide to get his own back this afternoon?

It is good see small tracks like Bangor getting plenty of support, particularly at this time of year.  They had a crowd of 2377 in attendance yesterday and that was nearly more than 1,000 up on last year's fixture.  A good effort when you consider that they do not even have a grandstand - the hills surrounding the course must have been full-up.

Claude Duval celebrates his 73rd birthday today.  The former Sun racing correspondent used to ghost my column about 50 years ago.  It wasn't racing back in those days - it was ping pong.

I see that it has now come out that Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius had concussion in the final of the Champion's League.  That would explain why he let in two soft goals in one of the worst goalkeeping displays I have ever seen.  There are still some people who think that is just as good as he is, with Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois suggesting that it is a load rubbish, pointing out that in between the two goals he made two good saves.  Come to think of it, Courtois might have a point.

It was a surprise to see Novak Djokovic lose in the French Open tennis to world number 72 Maren Ceccehinato.  Djokovic has now said that he might miss Wimbledon which would be a great shame.  He certainly doesn't seem to be anything like the player he was.

I can see exactly two years into the future...I have 2020 vision!  Keep smiling...
