It is a quiet day ahead with just two meetings taking place this afternoon, both on the flat with the action from Goodwood and Nottingham.  Unsurprisingly there are no runners from Pond House this afternoon.  Indeed, the next runners are likely to be at Worcester on Monday.

I was pleased to see Lucinda Russell honoured with an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.  We went out for a meal with Scu and Lucinda not long ago and she seems a lovely lady.  She couldn't believe some of the stories about what Peter and MCP used to get up to when he was riding for us.  It must have been a different world 30 years ago!  Just wait until my book comes out - I can see it being made into a film!

Talking about books, I see that Kieron Fallon and Declan Murphy were both among the winners at the Sports Book Awards.  I can't believe some of the stories that Fallon divulged - he was a great jockey, but didn't half get into a few scrapes.

The papers are claiming to have an inside steer into Gareth Southgate's England team for their first World Cup match against Tunisia.  If that is true, I find it incredible that he has not selected Marcus Rashford.  He was by far the best player on the field in England's latest match against Costa Rica and he scored a wonder goal to boot.  I know that it doesn't really matter who is selected against Tunisia, a win is expected, but the experience would certainly do him good.  I have been looking through the odds for the World Cup and Brazil are the favourites at 9/2, while England are 18/1 chances.  I think I would rather be on the Brazlians.

There are just three days to go and England play Australia in the cricket.  I wonder what the Aussie players will get up to and if there has been a run on sandpaper?  That will upset my Aussie mates...good!
