There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Beverley, Brighton and Newbury as well as a jumps fixture from our local track Newton Abbot.  Once again Newton Abbot have the best prize money on offer and continue to shine as a fine example of how a small course should be run.  David has two runners there; Red Square Revival and Timeforben.  Red Square Revival contests the 2m5f handicap chase at 7.30pm and our seven year old put up a good performance to win last time at Market Rasen on good ground.  he jumped well and I think the slightly longer trip may bring about further improvement and he should go well under Tom Scu.  Timeforben (pictured above) runs in the staying handicap hurdle at 8.35pm and she won at Worcester last time out.  She is 5lbs higher tonight but has sound claims once again.

It was good to see that the winners at Southwell yesterday afternoon did not have to return to the winners' enclosure owing to the blistering heat.  Instead they were taken down to the shaded area and doused with water.  Looking at a few of the results, I reckon that a few punters should have had the same done to them.

There is an interesting two page article in today's Racing Post in which Kieren Fallon plugs his biography.  I am yet to read it and wonder whether he relates all the early stories from his days at Jack Ramsden's?  Now he did like to have a punt!

There have been some odd results in the World Cup, not least Portugal drawing with Iran and Spain only drawing with Morocco.  The best result of the day was Uruquay beating Russia 3-0.  I will be having a little wager on France to beat Denmark at 5/4 and Croatia to beat Iceland at 5/4.

Just think, your local taxi driver drives a car and does not earn a lot of money, while Lewis Hamilton does the same thing and gets paid £40 million a year with Mercedes.  He doesn't even have to deal with oncoming traffic and you can be pretty sure he doesn't clean his vehicle out either!  Meanwhile, it is hardly surprising that former titans of the sport McLaren are struggling - motivation must be at a low...they hand out 25p bars of chocolate for good work and I am not joking.

Did you hear what happened when the cheese factory exploded?  De brie went everywhere!  Keep smiling...
