There are five meetings taking place this afternoon, all on the level with the action coming from Newcastle, Newmarket, Nottingham, Hamilton and Leicester.  The race that has attracted the most runners us the five furlong seller at Hamilton.  That tells you all you need to know, there is a demand for this type of race from trainers - now all they need to do is put on a few races over middle distances to interest jumps trainers and they will be earning revenue for the track as well!

I see that the Jockey Club are to put on 25,000 free meals for stable staff and box drivers across their 15 racecourses each year.  That will please Craig and Bob - Craig is mean and doesn't like shelling out a penny, while Bob is a Celtic fan...I rest my case!  Surely other racecourses should be following suit?  This is an excellent initiative to help look after the people at the grass roots of the sport.

It was really hot at Salisbury yesterday and furthermore six of the seven favourites were successful which will have made the bookies even hotter under the collar!  I wonder why everybody likes to see the bookies suffering?

Most of the nation will be sat in front of their televisions at 7pm tonight as England take on Belgium in the World Cup match.  To my mind this is the first proper test they will have faced, although the result is probably inconsequential as both teams are through to the last 16.  It is a wide open affair with England at 9/5 and Belgium at 2/1 - I know I am probably mad, but I will be having a little wager on England.  Colombia also look worth a bet to me at 10/11, I am just hoping they turn out a full team.

The big result of the day was South Korea beating Germany 2-0.  That means the Germans finish bottom of the group and are out of the World Cup.  I wonder what odds you would have got about that at the start of the tournament?

England gave Australia another beating in the Twenty20 yesterday - it's almost starting to get boring!  Who am I kidding?  I love it!  Jos Buttler scored 50 in just 22 balls as England won by 28 runs.

Andy Murray will decide in the next 24 hours if he is going to play at Wimbledon.  He certainly hasn't looked to be the force of old since returning from injury and it will be an uphill task for him if does give it a go.
