On the Gallops
Today we have five flat cards at Newmarket, York, Ascot, Chester and Chepstow. Yesterday I was watching Newmarket in between Wimbledon and Cardiff. I thought Resonant was very impressive in winning the 10 furlong handicap. He was clear and stayed on well to win by over three lengths. He would make a good hurdler! Mark Johnston also has an impressive two year old in Lumiere who won the 6F fillies maiden by six lengths. It was the best performance of the day for me. Today, the big race of the day is the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket. It is a Group 1 with nine runners and it looks a fairly open contest with them betting 3/1 the field. The next jumping action we have to look forward to comes up on Sunday, there are three meetings, Stratford, Southwell and Perth. David has entries at two so check back here tomorrow for more news of the stable runners.
In the Tennis yesterday Serena Williams looked different class to Sharapova and won 6-2, 6-4. She simply just hits the ball too hard for a lot of the ladies. John McEnroe says she is the best of all time and that is good enough for me. Andy Murray plays Roger Federer today in the men's semi final. For once, Federer could have more support than Murray! Mind you, Murray is 5/6 to win and Federer is 11/10. I think it will be a small interest in Murray for me, I think he is playing as well as ever. Come on Andy!
In the cricket the Test looks to be turning out to be a good one. The Aussies are on 264 for 7 and we have only had two days so we should get a result. England need quick wickets this morning. It is good to see English lad Moeen Ali in such good form, 77 runs and then two wickets. I wonder if Gillette have tried to sponsor him?!
I see that Raheem Sterling did not turn up for the second day of Liverpool training. I cannot see why they just don't transfer him. He can never play for them again, imagine what the crowd would be like to him? I think I would take the £40 million from Man City.
My wife says if I don't give up golf she'll leave me. That is terrible, I know I'm really going to miss her! Have a nice day.
