Weekend Jottings

This afternoon there are three meetings taking place on the flat with action from Bath, Ffos Las and Chelmsford City.  Mind you, the best card once again looks to be in Ireland with Group 1 and 2 races taking place at the Curragh.  It looks like some of our jockeys agree with the likes of Frankie Dettori and Ryan Moore extending their stay from yesterday.

What a result for Laura Mongan yesterday as she became the first lady to train the winner of the oldest Classic, the St Leger from Doncaster - a fantastic performance.  Talking of Doncaster, I see that former champion jockey Richard Hughes has come in for some stick for his ride in the Leger Legends race earlier in the week.  He rode favourite Bluff Crag who was still stone last two furlongs out - I don't think it was his finest ride, although some of the reaction on social media may have been a little unfair.  Hughsie said that he had been speaking with Lester Piggott and he still gets nervous when he does so.  I once went to Barney Curley's house and Barney was there in the kitchen chatting away to the "Long Fellow" - what would you have given to have had a microphone at that table?!

Surely former FIFA President Sepp Blatter should already be locked up?  He now has to face the music in a £60 million corruption investigation.  Blatter is already serving a six year ban, while former FIFA Vice President Jeffrey Webb was banned for life and fined £770,000 after pleading guilty to fraud and money laundering - it looks like they were all at it!

The football today is between Swansea and Chelsea at 4pm.  The best price you can get about Chelsea is 4/6 - you can back Swansea at 9/2 and that is where I will be putting my money.  I am still not convinced by Chelsea this season.

Mo Farrah can make history today by becoming the first man in history to win the North East half marathon three times in a row.  Farrah retained his 5,000 and 10,000 metres titles in Rio so he looks a good thing to follow-up here.

A thought occured to me only this morning...noone ever gives me a hand, although plenty have given me the finger!  Have a nice weekend...
