There is a busy day in store with no less than four meetings taking place on these shores, although Sandown need to pass early morning inspection.  Unfortunately we have just heard the news at 7.42am that Wetherby has been abandoned.  They had 5mm rain overnight at the track but unfortunately they are due quite a bit more rain throughout the day and were left with no other choice but to call it off.  The action comes from Sandown (hopefully) and Musselburgh over the sticks and Lingfield and Kempton on the all-weather.  Meanwhile over in Ireland there is the big Leopardstown card which features a couple of Grade 1 contests.

David was due to have two runners today; Main Fact and Ramses de Teillee who were contesting the rescheduled Cleeve Hurdle at Wetherby and it is a shame that is off as both would have loved conditions and were not without chances.

At Pond House it is a beautiful start to the day but it is pretty chilly!  -3 my car read this morning and there were a few icy patches on the roads so please be careful if you happen to be out and about this morning.  Thankfully the gallops are in good order and first lot are just out on exercise as I write.

The Leopardstown card features four Grade One races with the big one, the Dublin Chase a likely match between the Ricci pair; Chacun Pour Soi and Min.

Eamon An Cnoic ran his best race for some time when runner-up at Chepstow yesterday afternoon.  He led until headed at the last and could not respond to the winner on the run-in.  Even so, this was a big step in the right direction and he won’t be long in winning again based on this evidence.

There are five Premiership football matches to look forward to this afternoon with Manchester United versus Everton possibly the pick of them.  Everton have been good away from home this season, although United should edge a tight game.

England made a good start on the first day of the first Test match cricket series against India.  The visitors finished on 263 for 3 with Joe Root making an unbeaten century in his 100th Test.  Things can change very quickly in India however and Root has said that he would like 600 runs in the first innings.  Let’s hope they can get somewhere near that.
