            Happy Birthday David!

The great sporting action continues today so fingers crossed the racing at Leopardstown and Musselburgh beat the weather and we all have some top class racing to watch.  David does not have any runners today but we do have one tomorrow at Plumpton, all being well, Duc De Beauchene.

Meanwhile today at Leopardstown there are four Grade 1 races to look forward to.  The first of these is at 1.40pm, the juvenile hurdle.  The Gordon Elliott trained Quilixios looks the one for me though Willie Mullins has three in opposition and Youmdor is probably the pick of his trio.  At 2.10pm there is a Grade 1 novices hurdle over 2 miles.  Supreme hurdle favourite Appreciate It is in action and is the one they all have to beat.  At 3.10pm there is a Grade 1 novices chase over 2m5f where Monkfish is looking to cement his Cheltenham credentials while stablemate Asterion Forlonge will just be looking to complete for a confidence boost (he has fallen his last two starts) – if he does however he may not be too far away! The Fourth Grade 1 action of the day is at 3.40pm, the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup.  A small but high class field of five runner’s line up and Minella Indo is looking to get back on track after departing early from his race at Christmas.  The supporting card to the top races is also pretty good and I am certainly looking forward to watching.

At Musselburgh they also have some very good races with a Listed juvenile contest at 1.55pm and the Donald McCain trained Fiveandtwenty is putting her unbeaten record on the line.  There are also good novice races over both 3 miles at 2.25pm and 2 miles at 3.25pm.  While I don’t have any strong fancies I shall be watching with interest.  There is also an all-weather card at Southwell to keep us entertained.

I must finish by wishing the trainer a very Happy Birthday for today! I know daughters Sophie and Martha have made a carrot cake for dad and I am sure he will get spoilt rotten.  I hear a tasty roast beef lunch is on the menu so have a good day boss!  I must also wish Kieron Edgar a very happy birthday as it is his big day as well.  Kieron is back on his second spell with us and is a valuable member of our riding out team at home.  It feels like he has been around forever but he is actually only 27!  He first came to Pond House for work experience while still at school so he definitely feels like part of the family!

Alongside the racing we have Six Nations rugby and good football to watch – Liverpool v Man City at 4.30pm should be interesting.  While lockdown is not great, days like today are worth sitting on your sofa for!  Have a good day everyone.
