What A Moment ran a good race at Plumpton yesterday afternoon, doing everything but win the conditional jockeys' handicap chase.  He looked sure to score comfortably as he kicked away from the field on the home bend but began to idle approaching the penultimate fence and didn't meet either of the last two on a good stride.  He did rally well when the others came to him and only went down by a short head in a photo finish.  It was good to see him put in another solid run and he clearly didn't mind this drying ground.  He looks capable of winning something similar sooner rather than later.

Much like yesterday, we have had a foggy start to the day and it is decidedly cold with temperatures just above freezing.  Hopefully that will burn away this morning some time and give us another sunny afternoon.

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Catterick and Leicester and an all-weather flat fixture from Newcastle.  There are no runners from Pond House today.  Indeed, we have a few quiet days now with our next possible runners coming at Taunton on Thursday.

There is Premiership football action tonight as table toppers Manchester City host Wolves at 8.00pm.  City are on a record winning run of twenty games whilst Wolves come here on the back of a draw with Newcastle.  They did beat City at the Etihad last season, although a repeat of that feat appears unlikely with the home side looking completely different class this time round.

Fast on the heels of the Welsh Open and Players Championship snooker tournaments, the Gibraltar Open got underway yesterday.  It should be a fascinating event with former seven-times world champion Stephen Hendry stepping out of retirement.  He takes on Matthew Selt and it is not beyond the realms of possibility that he advances to the next round nine years after retiring from the sport.
