So today marks the first day of the 2021 Cheltenham Festival and David has two runners in the 3m6f NH Chase; Remastered and Eden du Houx and he looks to have a decent chance too.  This is the race that is normally reserved for amateur riders although with only elite sports allowed in this country it is now open to professional jockeys only.  It is sure to be a thorough test and none of the runners have proven their stamina at this sort of distance as yet.  Remastered (pictured above) has been in fine form this season, winning all three of his starts over fences, including the Grade 2 Rendlesham Chase at Ascot last time.  He stays well, jumps well and looks to have a good chance under Tom Scudamore, any further rain would only aid his chance.  Our other runner is Eden du Houx and whilst he is a big price, he was a Listed bumper winner with a touch of class and it would be no surprise to see him outrun his odds under David Noonan.

The big race of the day is the Champion Hurdle which takes place at 3.05pm.  It looks like a real cracker with last year's winner Epatante taking on a revitalised Goshen and the best of the Irish.  Goshen was very impressive at Wincanton last time, but it is going to be extremely difficult conceding 7lbs to the mares and this year there isn't just one but two top notchers.  I am very much in the Honeysuckle camp - she looked awesome in the Irish Champion Hurdle last time when she beat Abracadabras and Sharjah and she looks the likeliest winner to me.

Of course, there is other action taking place today with a jumps card from Sedgefield and two all-weather flat fixtures from Southwell and Newcastle.  Brian Hughes is obviously taking the defence of his jockeys' championship very seriously as he remains up north to try to take advantage of the less competitive racing.  He has six mounts today at Sedgefield including a couple that are quite short in the betting, whilst tomorrow he heads to Huntingdon for three mounts.  He currently leads Harry Skelton by six winners.

A boy came home from his first day at school.  "So, what did you learn today?" asked his mother.
"Not enough.  They want me to come back tomorrow!"
